No fluffy intros this week, let's get right to business.

Archeage 101: Fortune Cookie Event and How to avoid rage quitting

This week’s AA101 video showcased the new Fortune Cookie Event, which in and of itself wasn’t a hard event, but a lot of times people don’t know what’s going on until they see it first hand.  I also did something a little different this week in regards to helping new players.  Instead of showing them something specific about the game that they need to master, I approached it from explaining the game itself on a broad overview, especially all the things new players have ranted about.

I think of it like this, if you go to a restaurant known for having awesome stuck, but you are told the service is lousy and the prices crazy, then you can’t complain about the prices or the service if you go there.   Much the same way with Archeage.   There are a lot of bad things about the game, and they are just getting worse, but if you know about all the bad stuff you can still enjoy the game for all the good stuff there is to enjoy.

Anyway, you can check out that video on the Paradox home page or at https://youtu.be/hl6j5l0KfOM.

Archeage 101 Flashback

Bloodmist Bay

So for the last few days we’ve had the double everything event going on, and with that it means double Kyrios medals, and when we have double Kyrios medals it means a lot of Naval Arenas.

Now, nothing sucks more about Bloodmist Bay than having a team of people who are either alts, afk or who don’t know what they are doing because they don’t ask questions.  Now Alts and AFK not a lot you can do about this, but to make the matches more fun I did the Bloodmist Bay video so people could at least know some stuff before they entered the match.

For everyone who enjoys Naval Arenas make sure to share this link https://youtu.be/aZIAn16fhRY with your guilds and friends especially those people who have never done the arena before.   A lot of people have said it helped them understand what they were getting into before they actually loaded in and some people even said they wanted to check it out after seeing the video.

Archeage 101 Live on Twitch

Had a really good show this week on Twitch.   Right off the bat we had some really good questions.   That always makes for a good show and makes me happy that I continue to do the show.  Even if I only help one person each week I’m happy to dedicated my time doing the show.

Still learning a lot about Twitch and having fun with it and as always I accept constructive criticism, so if you think of anything that will help make the show better, please let me know.

Check us out on Fridays at 1000 Pacific, 1300 Eastern and 1800 GMT at https://www.twitch.tv/paradox_gaming_network.

Patreon Site

So I have the money accessible for the 5 Apex Giveaway, plus or minus some tax paperwork I need to do, which is why getting the Paradox Gaming Network, LLC is the next major goal I’m going to accomplish.  I should, hopefully, be able to knock that out with a few more sponsors and some good YouTube ad revenue.

Anyway, the Apex giveaway is going to go like this.   I have put a clue in the Fortune Cookie video to answer one of the questions on a little scavenger hunt quiz I’m going to put up in the near future (most likely 2 more weeks).  After that, I will give people about a week to register for the giveaway.

Once I announce the winners, it will take me a little bit of time to create characters on all the different servers and hand-out Apex.  In a RNG blessed world some of the people will end up on the servers I already have characters on.

Intrepid Studios and Ashes of Creation News

Tons of new Ashes of Creation news this week, which is great because this game is probably the biggest hyped game I’ve ever seen.

Intrepid had a livestream this week which you can check out at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/219939981 and as always I did my teacher thing and I broke the livestream down a little bit and posted my video on the webpage with a direct link here https://youtu.be/4wraCCQ8zaI

If you haven’t registered for Ashes of Creation yet and you want to help support the Paradox Gaming Network, follow this link https://www.ashesofcreation.com/ref/Jahlon/ and register for Ashes.  We currently have 77 people who have decided to support us via this method and we have at least $126 in Intrepid Bucks that we will end up cashing out and raffling off/giving away to players.

Archeage News

Looking into Archeage 4.5 there may be some light at the end of the tunnel again, however, I’m not sure if there is going to be a player base to experience it.

It seems like every time they do any sort of balancing, they forget that the game isn’t a simple scale with only the left and the right its three or four way balancing act that XL has failed to keep balanced.

In my crazy head I think of the game as a balancing act of Meat Shields (tanks) Physical Damage Dealers (Archer/Melee) Magic Damage Dealers (Mages) and Healers.  Now in each category it should be a game of rock paper scissors (assuming gear is equal)

Physical Damage should not be able to beat a Plate Tank.

Physical Damage should be able to beat a Cloth Tank

Physical Damage should be a matter of skill vs a Leather Tank

Mage DPS should not be able to beat a Cloth Healer

Mage DPS should always be able to beat a Plate Healer

Mage DPS should be a matter of skill vs a Leather Healer

And so on and so forth.

However, with the introduction of the new gems in 4.0 the game has gotten completely turned on its head.  I took 22,000 damage from a Meteor after absorbing 45,000.

That’s a 67,000 DPS meteor; however, with all the defensive stats (65% Magic Defense, 20% Magic Damage Reduction, 7K Resilience, 5.8K Toughness) I shouldn’t be taking that much damage.   One of these days it would be great for Trion or XL to explain how mitigation actually works so you can properly prepare for defensive combat.
